Class of 1954 – 60th Reunion Recap

By: Dean Lattman

The Saints Class of 1954 held their 60th Reunion on Thursday, July 24, 2014.  Mass was held at 4:00 p.m. and celebrated by Fr. Keller in the Saints’ Chapel.  Following the Mass, a Happy Hour with cocktails and other beverages was enjoyed in the beautiful patio area.  The scene was much different from 1954 with magnificent trees which dwarfed the setting.  The prime rib or chicken cordon bleu dinner was excellent and served by Agosta’s Catering.

There were over 45 participants attending including classmates, their wives, and several widows of our fallen class members.  The members enjoyed 1950’s music throughout the evening and old photos and annuals brought by several of the classmates.

Those attending from out of the San Diego area were Marty Bowman (1954 ASB president) and his wife, Diane, Larry Schweinfurter and his wife Clarice,  John Wilper and wife Barbara, and Carlos Escalante and wife Maria.

Everyone had wonderful visits with each other remembering the “good old days”. The class members spoke about the educational, friendly and nurturing climate at St. Augustine and appreciated the great teachers.  A video presentation was shown by the Saints’ President, Ed Hearn, regarding the next major building project—a gym/student activity center.
