David Allen Labadie Obituary

ed labadieDear Friends and Schoolmates: Our brother Dave rests in peace after a full life and a long battle with diabetes. He is fondly remembered for his kindness and generous heart. Dave was the second child of Mary Ann and Edward, USN. His lifelong commitment to education began at OLSH school; he graduated from St. Augustine HS, class of ’66, received his AA in Journalism from SD City College, his BA in Psychology from SDSU in ’74. Dave was exceptionally active in Continuing Ed programs for many years, gaining his AA in Labor Studies at Grossmont College, an AA in History at Miramar College, and was working toward a teaching certificate at UCSD. Following high school, Dave’s lengthy work career began at the SD Zoo, followed by 28 years of service with the SD County Probation Service; retired in 2002. He received many professional service awards, was an active contributor and volunteer for numerous organizations, including journalism for labor and sports, docent for historical societies, voting polls volunteer, and he organized crews for the Memorial Day flags project at Ft. Rosecrans National Cemetery for 17 years. Dave was a natural leader wherever he served. His passions extended to photography and videos, and many will treasure photos ‘by Dave’. He served a higher goal of recording history in his travel and studies. Dave will always be loved by surviving siblings, Elizabeth (and Rick), Gail (FL), Edward (OR), and Timothy (and Cherri). Gloria and Scott previously deceased. Also, nieces April, Melissa, Rachel, and Aliza; nephews Ronald, Robert, Bryon, DiAndre, and Nolan. Dave’s faithful little dog “Scooter” misses him very much also. Memorial service Jan 25, 1:30 pm., Glen Abbey Memorial Park, Nature Garden, Bonita, CA.
