21st Annual Saints Alumni Bocce Ball Tournament Recap

The Saints Alumni Association conducted its 21st annual Alumni Bocce Ball Tournament on the Saints campus on October 3rd. As it has done for the past several years the Association timed the event to take place on the Saturday of Homecoming weekend.

This year’s participation was an almost 50% increase from last year, with 44 players versus 30. It is the last year the event will take place on the practice field adjacent to the faculty parking lot as that field will disappear to make way for the new student activity center and gymnasium.

About $785 dollars was raised to bolster the scholarship endowment funds at Saints and a good time was had by all in the process of generating those funds.

As usual, a wide range of alumni class years was represented, from 1954 to the very early 2010s. This year’s champions were David Knoll ’75 and Claude Janowicz ’70, who narrowly beat out multiple-time previous winners, Gregg Croff ‘99 and David Nau ‘97.

The beer consumed at the event was donated by Dennis O’Connor ’95 of Thorn Street Brewery. Other donors to the event included: Fillippi’s Pizza, Little Italy; Pernicano’s Family Restaurant on Turquiose Street; Imperial House, Park West; the Godfather Restaurant, Clairemont; Albie’s Beef Inn, Mission Valley and the Ruben H. Fleet Science Center. The Alumni Association appreciates all of the donations and encourages all alumni to patronize the donors to the event.
