Turkey Trot 2017 Alumni Recap

Written by Mark Johnson ’83

Halo Joe and Tom Turkey greeted hundreds of current Saintsmen, alumni, family and friends,  for the running of the Annual Saint Augustine High School Turkey Trot.  At high noon on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving, Saintsmen gathered in the courtyard outside the new Saints Commons where Halo Joe and Tom Turkey rallied the runners while student DJs played motivating music over the courtyard sound system.  This year’s event brings back an old tradition, a live turkey was on scene to provide an added touch for a Thanksgiving reality that all Saintsmen demand.

The hundreds of race participants lined up and Mr Andrew Pruter led the group in a prayer, and then started the race.  Many alumni are all too familiar with the grueling 2.2 mile course, which includes the dreaded Juniper Street dip (the site of much conditioning torture for Saints teams from the past) . The course ended at the courtyard entrance to the new basketball arena and Commons, where Powerade and a tasty pot pie were available for those who braved the course.  We are happy to report that everybody completed the course and had a fantastic time doing it. Check out the video of the race start below to grasp how awesome this year’s trot was!
