I won a pair of writing awards for stories I wrote this past year. The story about Manai Hazlett, an all-league running back at Del Norte High missed his junior season in 2019 because of cancer won first place in the Society of Professional Journalists, San Diego chapter writing contest. A story about quadruplets who all played on the boys soccer team at Maranatha Christian High captured third place. Both stories received third-place honors earlier this year from the California Newspapers Publishing Association.
Here are the links to the two stories:

I have been a sports writer in San Diego County since February, 1973, covering my first game when I was just 22. I am currently a freelancer for a number of papers.
