The St. Augustine High School Class of 1993 celebrated their 20 year reunion on October 11 & 12, 2013.
On Friday October 11, fifteen plus classmates got re-acquainted at a pre-game tailgate in the Mesa College parking lot. It was a great chance to also meet some of the alumnus’ wives and kids. We were then so luck to witness our Saints put a shellacking on San Diego high, as well as be introduced at halftime on the field in front of the crowd.
On Saturday October 12, a small group of alumni and their families came to campus for a morning mass given by Fr. Kirk Davis, complete with alumni Chris Mossuto partaking as a Eucharist Minister and Fred Sobke performing the first reading. After mass we enjoyed a great catered mexican meal in the old library next to the administration building, where we learned about the recent renovations, as well as the vision for the future of our alma mater (for more information visit: http://www.sahs.org/advancement/building-future-saints/). Taking time to burn some calories we were led on a walking tour led by alumnus and current Alumni Liason Dan Strickland. We saw the new campus classrooms, alumni playing in the annual Bocce Ball tournament, the new poly-turf track and football field, and what has not yet changed, including the gym, weight room and all of course Ted’s and those wonderful “Steak Nuggets.” For those that missed the tour I really recommend you head to campus sometime to see the improvements that have been made. It must be so nice for today’s students to not have to attend classes in portable trailers.
The main event of the weekend, our co-ed event with the OLP Class of 1993 at the House of Blues, kicked off at 7pm with over 110 in attendance and went past midnight. Complete with our own private room, staff, bar, DJ and great food, many alumni and their dates cut loose on the dance floor like they were back in the 90’s! So many of us spent time reminiscing about the events of past years, while at the same time made promises to stay in touch and see one another. This event, as all throughout the weekend proved that there is and always will be a strong bond amongst us all.
